Information Technology has its impact on such diverse fields as education, health care, banking, communication, manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, hospitality, influencing the day to day activities of human life. This branch of study is in high demand by the students as it is the gateway to the abundant lucrative job openings around the world. The recent years have witnessed the IT and ITES as the fastest growing industries earning big revenues contributing to the development of our nation. The department of Information Technology aspires to shape every student into a competent and employable graduate who can face the changing demands of the industries from time to time. The 2 storied IT block situated to the South of the Main Block houses 2 computer laboratories and 2 spacious class rooms.Catering to the requirements of the curriculum, the students are given practical exposure to C language initially. Subsequently, they are trained in object oriented languages such as C++ and Java. In due course, they are introduced to RDBMS with Oracle 9i, Multimedia suite such as Flash, Macromedia Director. Further, the students are exposed to web technologies such as HTML, CGI, Servlets, ASP, JSP, Jscript and VB Script etc., and they take practical experiments in web authoring, networking in the Windows and Linux platforms involving the vital concepts of inter networking such as socket programming and Remote Method Invocation. The students also design and develop Information Systems applying Software Engineering methodologies using Visual Studio suite tools and UML.

Thus the calibre of the students is augmented form time to time throughout the entire course of study and finally they are attuned to take up projects in the areas such as network security, project management, development of vital web applications etc and their prospects for placement are enhanced.

The laboratories are equipped with 33 numbers of the latest IBM Think Centre DEsktops configured with high speed Pentium IV processors©3.OGHZ with 80GB Hard Disk Drives and 512MB RAMS enhanced with EM64T technology. In addition to the above, there are 19 systems of which 9 are powcicd by Pentium III and 18 by Celeron processors. All these systems are networked under LAN to an 1MB X226 server powered by Intel Xeon processor@3.0 GHZ.

An assorted collection of application software such as Turbo C, C++, JDK 1.4, JSDK 2.0, Visual Studio 7.0, RDBMS packages such as OraclelOg, SQL Server and operating systems including Windows 2000 server, Windows 2000 Professional, and Fedora Core are maintained.

To improve the technical know-how of students, expert guest lectures and technical contests are being organized frequently. Soft skills development sessions are also conducted from time to time to enable the students to face the interviews with confidence and to win their dream jobs
